Alyssa Valdez is a Filipino volleyball player. She is a multi-awarded athlete and is considered to be one of the best collegiate volleyball players in the Philippines today. She is a full-time student at the Ateneo de Manila University taking up AB Psychology and a member of the student council. She is a true student-athlete as she not only excels in sports but also in academics. She is currently a member of the Ateneo de Manila University’scollegiate women’s varsity volleyball team in both indoor and beach volleyball.
Career Beginnings
The five-foot-nine Alyssa Valdez hails from San Juan, Batangas. She is the only girl in a brood of four siblings. She learned how to play volleyball by playing with her two older brothers when she was in elementary school at the age of 10.
Having developed her volleyball skills, she later played in the Southern Tagalog (Calabarzon) Athletic Association (STACAA), a regional sports meet for elementary and high school student athletes. After that, she was discovered and recruited by the University of Santo Tomas (UST), where she played for their high school varsity volleyball team, the UST Tigress Cubs.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles program has a women's collegiate varsity volleyball team which represents the Ateneo de Manila University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
History
[edit]The Ateneo Blue Eagles women's volleyball team was formed in 1975. They first played competitive varsity volleyball when they participated in the women's volleyball tournament of the NCAA (Philippines) in Season 51 (1975–76). The following year, Season 52 (1976–77), the Lady Blue Eagles won their first and only NCAA women's volleyball championship. They were unable to defend their title in the NCAA because Ateneo de Manila transferred to the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in 1978. The team did not win a championship for the next 37 years.
