Emma Watson broadened her impressive body of acting work, showing her versatility as a performer with her first screen roles following the completion of the HARRY POTTER series.
Emma starred in Stephen Chbosky's adaptation of his coming-of-age novel THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER starring opposite Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller. This independent drama centres around Charlie (Lerman), an introverted freshman who is taken under the wings of two seniors (Watson and Miller) who welcome him to the real world. The film won the People's Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Movie as well as an NBR Award for Top Films. Emma won the People's Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress and Best Supporting Actress at the San Diego Film Critics Society Awards for her role.
2011 saw Emma in Simon Curtis's MY WEEK WITH MARILYN, alongside a stellar cast of Oscar nominees including Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe and Kenneth Branagh as Sir Laurence Olivier, in addition to Eddie Redmayne, Dame Judi Dench, Dougray Scott, Zoe Wanamaker, Toby Jones and Dominic Cooper. Colonia (released in the UK as The Colony) is a 2015 historicalthriller film directed by Florian Gallenberger, produced by Benjamin Herrmann, written by Torsten Wenzel and Gallenberger, and starring Emma Watson, Daniel Brühl, and Michael Nyqvist. The film is set against the backdrop of the 1973 Chilean military coup and the Colonia Dignidad, a notorious cult in the South of Chile, led by German lay preacher Paul Schäfer. Colonia is an international co-production of companies in the UK, Germany, Luxembourg, and France.
Principal photography began on 2 October 2014 in Luxembourg; filming also took place in Germany and Argentina. Colonia held its world premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival in the Special Presentations section.[4] The film was released in Germany on 18 February 2016, in the United Kingdom on 1 July 2016, and in France on 20 July 2016.
