    Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated a former Deputy Governor of the state, Prof Modupe Adelabu on her 70th birthday.

    Adelabu, who is currently the Chair of the National Board for Technical Education, was deputy governor of the state between May 8, 2013, and October 15, 2014.

    The Governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Yinka Oyebode, said Adelabu’s attainment of the age of 70 in good health and fulfilment was a special grace and rare privilege from her Creator.

    Fayemi said Adelabu’s tenure as deputy governor was short but remarkable, adding that she contributed immensely to governance and handled all assignments given her with passion and an unwavering touch of excellence.

    The Governor described Adelabu as an exemplar, seasoned scholar, teacher of teachers, and a very loyal and dependable deputy.

    He also described the NBTE boss as an amazing woman of substance, brilliant policymaker and implementer par excellence, a consummate politician, and a servant of the people.

    As deputy governor of Ekiti State, what were your highlights in office?

    When you are a deputy, you don’t have a rigid job description, but to support your principal in all areas; and that is what I did. I had the confidence of the governor, Kayode Fayemi, and we worked like a team. I had free access to him and we had a very strong working relationship. Apart from that, I had other assignments in the educational sector and I usually represented him at various occasions. It was really a learning curve for me. He was like a coach and mentor to me, and I tried to follow his style. However, that doesn’t mean I did not chip in one or two things, probably because of the age difference, as I am older than him. I was well involved in decision-making, so whatever happened, it would be a collective responsibility.

    Many deputy governors don’t have harmonious relationships with governors. What do you think is the cause of that?

    That is usually because most deputies are ambitious. However, mine was an exception because I came from an academic backgro
